Interesting castle close to the hotel with good water activities offered on the river. Did not use public transport but had a hire car. The streets in general were well maintained and well signposted so that getting around Jelgava by car was easy.

I adored the city.
I adored the city. It is a nice mixture of historical sights and nature. The riverside and the island are wonderful and it is really nice to walk in the streets. We came by car and there were a lot of parking places. If you don't wanna walk too much, there are plenty of electric scooters too.

I couldn't say that Jelgava has a lot of attractions (especially in winter during Covid, hehe), but for a short visit it was pleasant and entertaining. Ice sculptures served as a main attraction with general city illumination nicely adding to it, while a great steak served in PARKS restaurant did well to make for a complete evening.

Jelgava is an old and beautiful city but with a very young heart, as it hosts the University of Technology and Life Sciences (formerly University of Agriculture) now in the divine Rennaisance building of the old university. Much opportunities for sightseeing and slow enjoyment of the city mood, fine dining, various events like Bread and Milk Festival the next weekend, etc.

Jelgava is a very nice town, has areas that have been well...
Jelgava is a very nice town, has areas that have been well developed and designed to be very sympathetic to the historical hub of the town. We stayed for a week mostly to see family, but also to celebrate the Ligo Ligo weekend. these celebrations were a little muted, to what we had been expecting, but still attended a concert by the river in the new arena, all very pleasant (Only 1 x food & 1 x drinks outlet, not enough for the large numbers in attendance).
The town itself is pretty well spread out, so don't go looking for a town center, everything is neighbourly, rather than there being a central hub, so dependent on where you stay, just make sure that most things are close by.
Also, being a University town, in the summer months, a lot of people go away, so make sure that you pick your travel times accordingly, As with our visit, we arrived the day of university graduations, so the town became very quite, as the week proceeded.
The town is a good alternative to use as a transport hub to Riga. We used the train to go from Jelgava to Riga, simple as can be, runs every hour, takes about 45 minutes each way and is roughly 3 euros plus it runs from Riga back to Jelgava until 11pm, so could be a way of saving on the over priced hotels / apartments in Riga.
It was a beautiful house. The room itself was nice and big enough for 3 of us. Right before the hotel is a local restaurant and cafe. We had dinner there and the food we had was delicious. In the same restaurant they also serve the breakfast in the morning. Also next door is kind of an "amusement park" for the kids. Each ride is 1EUR if I remember correctly. They did close by 19 but some attractions were also outside the gates suitable for kids. So I would say it is a great place to stay with the kids.
Lovely apartment in Jelgava, comfortable, clean, with lots of thoughtful details (umbrellas, fresh flowers, chocolate), located in a residential area, walking distance to the city's sights. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly. For some reason my phone was unable to connect to the wifi, but my laptop was. We found free parking space in front of the building both nights.
Very friendly staff in this family-run hotel in the countryside not far from Jelgava and just off the main road to Riga. Spacious rooms, comfy beds and nice bathrooms. Basic tea/coffee options in the room and a shared kitchen on the first floor. The nearby restaurant has good, filling food for a reasonable price and serves a good breakfast (included with the room).
Jelgava is an interesting place that probably not many tourists go to, but the palace is quite nice and Hotel Zemgale is reasonably close to it. When I arrived, I had forgotten that breakfast is included, which was a pleasant surprise. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. Overall a good deal.
Wonderful gem in Jelgava! We actually live in Jelgava but wanted to have some "vacation" and visited this hotel. Beautiful 😍! The staff is absolutely wonderful 😊👍🏻 and the breakfast was delicious! Highly recommended. The area is old and very interesting for foreigners like us.
The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone. They were extremely accommodating and allowed us to check after the check in time.
Perfect location by the river and the town centre. Good value for money (for me coming from the U.K. where an equivalent hotel would be a lot more expensive). Free Wi-Fi. Decent self-service breakfast. All staff spoke adequate English.
It is a very nice and cosy house in the suburbs of Jelgava. The house is well equipped, you can find everything you need for daily living. And it has it’s own playground, which my kid enjoyed a lot! The owner is very responsive.
Lovely historical building with spacious rooms. Also functions as hostel but the rooms with shower are hotel quality for sure. Staff super friendly and helps out and showed all the facilities. Large garden with pond/'lake'.
Family friendly nice owner (sorry again for very late arriving) and beautiful cosy good equiped flat, with perfect localisation next to the river and not far from majestetic impressive Jelgavas Palace and Squers...
The hotel staff was kind and helpful. The room was clean and well organised, incl kitchenette.
Location in quiet neighborhood, but still close to the central area.
Garden for playing, grilling and chilling.
Looks exactly like pictures, felt like home in this apartment the host was amazing even told us where to visit in jelgava … whenever I come down again definitely staying only there from now on☺️
The host was the most welcoming and helpful prior and during our stay, the apartment has a cute balcony and pet friendly. if I’ll be visiting Jelgava again, I know where to come back to :)
