Desenzano is a lovely holiday resort with a beautiful centre...
Desenzano is a lovely holiday resort with a beautiful centre with plenty of restaurants and bars. Easy access to ferries.
During tge four days we were there, we visited the castle and the Roman Villa. Whilst we were there, the Giro D'Italia finished in the town which was quite exciting!
We spent half a day also visiting Sirmione by ferry and half a day visiting Pescheiria del Garda by train.
We ate at the yacht club, and the Ristorante Al Portico, both at tge Eastern end of town. And the Santa Pizza at the Western end of town. We preferred the first two restaurants.
We were using public transport. Apart from the ferry, the bus terminus and station were half an hours' walk away up a hill.
There are plenty if buses but we never really git to grips with the bus transportation system. Probably vecause of tge Guro and tge narket on Tuesday morning interfered with the routes!

Glorious surroundings, in a clean and friendly resort.
Glorious surroundings, in a clean and friendly resort.
Ferry trips are a must but can be very crowded.
More restraunts than you can shake a stick at, but are prevalantly pizza, not much else in the way of true Italian quisine.
Busses and trains are great during the day but stop running at around 20.00, and hardly run at all on Sunday

Desenzano is probably the biggest of the towns on the lake.
Desenzano is probably the biggest of the towns on the lake. It's not the prettiest of them but is most accessible by train/bus and the port provides more ferry options.
It's easy enough to get around but a few of the streets, a block in from the harbour, are steeply uphill. A lot of the footpaths have decorative cobblestones, which shake up a wheelchair. But, wheelchair users go free on the ferries, and their partner at half price, which is very decent. Ferry staff are very good at getting wheelchairs on and off via ramps. Some of the bigger ferries even have lifts to the top deck. A very good base for a holiday.

Evening walks.
Evening walks. A nice short day trip to Verona no guide needed. Not too expensive. Fantastic views of the lake. Sadly no boats running to cross the lake. A little boat crossing twice a day would be helpful as it is November and out of season

The part where we stayed had so much within walking distance, along with good ferry, bus and train links to other places.
We ate at La Taverna a couple of times. But there were other places to choose from. Didn't really have any poor meals anywhere.
The host recommended a little supermarket not too far away and that was good for basic needs.
We happened to be there on the weekend of the air review - great to see the Tricolore and really enjoyed watching the air show along with all the visitors.
The Tuesday market was excellent, and we also enjoyed our visit to the Roman Villa in the town.

The location was good, not right in the centre so nice and quiet but close to the beach and easy walking distance to the ferry port, shops and restaurants. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast was the best - everything you could want with a lakeside view. It is not far from the train station but a steep downhill there and uphill back so I chose a taxi, which was inexpensive and the hotel are happy to arrange this for you. The room was clean and comfortable.
I stayed at Hotel Europa in 2013 and was very pleased with everything, so I did not hesitate to stay their again. the staff remembered me after nine years which blew me away. The location is wonderful as well and the breakfast set up is exceptional. There were two restaurants next to the Hotal Europa and each one was very good. if I visit Desenzano del Garda again there is no doubt where I will stay.
The breakfast was great. Good choice every morning.
The pool was good and most of the time you had it to yourself.
It was a lovely walk into desenzano along the side of the lake which took about 25 minutes. Plenty of places to eat in neighbourhood. Bus stop into desenzano 2 minutes from hotel also stop for going to Brescia or Verona
The hotel is superb. It is directly overlooking the lake. The location couldn’t be better. The staff is really friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was great. The rooms are big and spacious compared to other places I’ve been to in Italy. The place is clean and spotless. I totally recommend staying in.
We were particularly impressed by the courteousness of the hotel staff. The breakfasts served at the hotel were not only delicious but also abundant. The hotel's location is highly advantageous, being only a few minutes' stroll away from Lake Garda and the historic part of Desenzano.
Stefania and Bruno are super kind hosts. The animals are humble, calm and always ready to cuddle them. The breakfast is the best ever, I'll suggest the upgrade to the all inclusive level with it. Nice location, easy to reach Desenzano del Garda, Sul del Garda or even Sirmione.
The hotel is in the heart of Garda and located perfectly for exploring the city. The rooms are quiet, have air-conditioning, private bathroom, comfy big bed, furnished with taste. The host is vey welcoming. Will definitely save this place for another visit to Garda Desenzano🤍
This hotel is located in an exceptional location, in a small bay on the very shore of Lake Garda. The hotel staff was very friendly, especially the young lady at the reception, which I "bored" more than once a day. Our room was nice and clean, breakfast was also very good.
The hotel location was ideal, just on the edge of the City, with a great view of Lake Garda. It was a very short and pleasant walk into the built up area and close to many restaurants and bars. Our Lake facing room was ideal as was the air conditioning in the room.
We had to stay one night in Desenzano because of a Trenitalia strike. We have chosen this hotel because it is near the train station and we were positively surprised: very comfy bed. Really good breakfast and a nice lake view from our room (305).
W enjoyed our short stay at Piccola Vela. The hotel was gracious and lovely, the grounds were beautiful. Our room was generous and comfortable. From this location we were able to walk and explore. A nice stay by the beautiful lake Garda.
Excellent and highly recommended hotel for stay, facilities in good condition, staff is very responsible. Very close to the Garda lake and other tourist points of interest. All the way ++++++++++
Paula is an excellent host!! Breakfast and all the small details about the "Casa" are just SO GOOD and WELL taken off.... Amazing 😻 in, 3 -star hotel, in my opinion -rated 4 as minimum!!!!!
Breakfast was good, everything was very clean and tidy in our room and around the hotel. Very friendly staff. 1 minute walk from train station. 10 / 15 min walk to Lake Garda
Fantastic location, in the heart of Desenzano del Garda. Nadia was a fantastic host also. The accommodation was nice, with all the basic amenities required.
