This is a "Festival-Town". They love Festivals and every 2-3 months they have some feasts :) I could enjoy throughout the "Golden Week" on the 3-4th of May 2024 the Parade on the streets. It was really colorful and culturally interesting for a European. :) The Old Town is a must see! :)

Fukuoka is an entry point to Kyushu with an international airport and a port. It has lots of attractions that can easily be reached by train and subway. Fukuoka has excellent dining, shopping, some great gardens, and if you are a student then visiting Daizumi shrine is a must. It is a shrine dedicated to the success of students in their studies.

Nice city. I'm a bit surprise that it's not overcrowded like another big cities in Japan that I've been to. Might not be the best place for shopping but it's about right to me. It's more local Japan to me. I see very few English signs. There are some nice attractions but I wouldn't plan a week long trip with just Fukuoka. There are other cities and attractions in Kyushu that should also be in the plan. You don't really need a car in Fukuoka. It's well covered by public transport but for Kyushu in general it'll help considerably if you like to drive though. If I'd plan again, I wouldn't drive the whole trip outside Fukuoka. I rather drive in some areas and travel between big cities with train. It make more sense and can cover more areas and attractions.AAnonymousThailand - 10Scored 10

Loved Fukuoka, it's an underrated city. As long as you're not looking for a city like Kyoto with lots of traditional Japan, you'll find it to be a lively city with lots to do! The yatai's are a great way to experience food in Fukuoka!

It's perfect place for quick transitioning between cities and when you are on a busy schedule. Also always free breakfast I didn't use it as I had to go very early but it's really good. Lastly they are better prepared for modern world than 5 star hotels! I love that they installed USB and Ctype chargers!!! Big bonus for overseas travellers like myself

Fukuoka airport may be the only airport in Japan that we can reach by a taxi with a reasonable price (less than 3,000 yen from Hakata station).
