It was really close to the bus stop and Takegawara Onsen. We loved the Beppu cold noodles restaurant called "Rokusei", which again was close to the hostel. The area around the hostel had a retro atmosphere, but the hostel itself was stylishly built. The prices were reasonable.

Beppu is one of the best cities I visited, it is a city is in the middle of sea and mountain. There is a lot of Onsen where you can be easy to find around the city, Beppu is called " City of Onsen".
You can relax and release any daily tired at the onsen bath (especially if you bath onsen pool outside)
Furthermore, you can go to viewpoint to see the Beppu city and mountain view.
It is a good memory to visit there.

The seven hells of Beppu (Jigoku) are really great to fill a day. You can have a nice walk along the shoreline and the mall near the bay offers a great shopping opportunity. There are a few good restaurants that you can enjoy. The neighborhood around the Jigoku is quite nice, the rest of Beppu not so much. Two or three days are enough for this town.

We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas.
We didn't have enough time to see other onsen areas. We did not rent a car so we traveled by bus. We did not get to see the onsen areas as I did want to try some of the other ryokan onsens. The only problem I had was with the stools that you sit on to swcrub yourself.

I really enjoyed the hot springs!
I really enjoyed the hot springs! I went to Hyotan Onsen and did the hot springs and sand bath. the sand bath was a little underwhelming but the hot springs was perfect! there was also a waterfall bath which was a nice experience. the sand bath was a "do it yourself" situation where you dig a hole and cover yourself. it was nice; i recall i fell asleep. It was a little underwhelming; i would do just the hot springs again though! Also, the sand bath area was kind of small and co-ed, 7-8 rows and probably fit 4 people per row. Other than that, Hyotan had a dining restaurant and tried the cold ramen; refreshing after a nice hot dip! Getting around Beppu was easy for me. i was mostly around just the hot spring area and the area of the 7 devil hot springs (which i ran out of time and did not get to do all but was happy i got to do at least 5). the area was also kind of hilly... so one may be walking uphill a bit but no big deal, not a steep incline. Overall, Beppu was a great experience and I would come back for the hot springs as it's what the town is known for!

Nice family onsen onsite but there was a small charge.
Nice family onsen onsite but there was a small charge. Breakfast was fabulous. Served in a cubicle for my family of 3. Free basement parking at the hotel and more than sufficient parking lots. Nice also that the bus boy was right at our car once we drove in and helped to carry our bags.

There are only 8 Hells of Beppu to visit. 1-2 days is just right. Plenty of good restaurants in town. Michelin Guide restaurant called "Arabata" is highly recommended. They serve the best beef in town and the price is reasonable!
Buffet Breakfast and buffet dinner are amazing. Plenty of choices to choose from. Staffs are really professional and attentive to your needs. A lot of parking spaces and free for the hotel guests. There is a coin laundry facility next to the hotel which is amazing. The outdoor public baths are awesome as well. Remember to bring your swimsuit when using the outdoor bath as it is like a swimming pool. The indoor onsen was good with a reasonable size. There is a 7-11 nearby so if you need something urgent, you can go there.
Breakfast comes with two choices, either the international buffet or the Japanese traditional set.
Note that the Japanese traditional set only consist of sashimi and cold cuts hence may not be suitable for all.
The international buffet is very nice though.
They also have public onsen which is kind of "dated" but serves its purpose well.
Carpark is free, just need to exchange your car park ticket for a complimentary pass at the hotel reception.
Chose small but very efficient room. Window could be opened. Short walk from Beppu Station. VERY efficient staff. Onetime, entered hotel at midday, 5 mins later a phone call from front desk telling me water being cut off for 90 mins for urgent repairs. Best English communication I have experienced on this trip to Japan. Even spontaneous decision to have breakfast in hotel handled very well. And the onsen, indoor and outdoor wonderful as well
Very lovly traditional Japanese hotel with both Tatami and western style sitting area. Only 6 or so rooms and both in room onsen and hotel onsen(private and larger than inroom onsen). Dinner and breakfast are both excellent. We stayed for two days and the menu's are different. Staff speaks good English and very friendly. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the center of the he'll onsen. But the walk is very lovely.
At walkable distance to the train station, close to Beppu tower. The staff was really friendly and explained everything in English. A large kitchen area and common room. The Japanese style room was spacious and the tatami mats seemed to be really new. A large fridge and hot water kettle in the room. Shower and toilet (with toilet brush, which is rather rare in Japanese hotels) were in separated rooms.
While the whole Hotel is charming and the private onsen and Japanese style rooms are exactly what I came for , I was positively surprised by the extremely high quality of dinner and breakfast.
Both dinner menues were exquisite and easily rank in the top 3 dinners I had this year. Room and bath were well kept and clean, very comfortable futon (not too soft).
Staff made sure to make me feel welcome.
We booked a "Standard Room with Tatami Area - Main building". However, when we checked in, I think they gave us the Deluxe room with tatami. Room is big and very comfortable. There is a private onsen in the room, perfect to have a soak in the morning. The hotel is next to the famous Beppu "Jigoku Meguri" Hells Tour. You can walk to 5 of the 7 Hells after checked in the hotel.
This place was centrally located in Beppu. It is a charming old style Japanese home, with a shared bathroom upstairs for the guests and one downstairs. There are no bathing facilities in the home, but across the street is a traditional neighborhood house. Though this wasn't a problem for us as we soaked at two different onsens during the day. The owner was very nice.
- interior design, both lobby and room. it was a pleasure to stay in a place different than Japanese room style
- stuff spoke great English
- they had happy hours bar offers
- rooftop pool and onsen were amazing
- wifi worked nicely
- room coffee making facilities - proper kettle and drip bags
- free rental of Yukata designed for hotel in collaboration with SHIPS brand
Really nice, modern hotel right near Beppu station which made it easy to get to Oita airport the next morning. The Classic Triple Room was very luxurious with a sitting area on a tatami mat as well as a couch. Has laundry facilities which was a bonus for us. Unfortunately we didn't visit the onsen as it was too crowded.
Booked including dinner because there aren't many restaurants near by. We did not expect to be served a 9 course Kaiseki meal. It was delicious and presented beautifully.
The rooms were spacious and very clean, with private Onsen bath on the balcony. Can highly recommend this beautiful Ryokan for a stay in Beppu.
Staff were very friendly and helpful – they provided small towels, body wash and shampoo to take to the local onsens, gave good recommendations for local restaurants, and they let me borrow an umbrella from reception when it was raining. Hotel is very conveniently located (just a one minute walk to Beppu station).
Love the onsen on the roof! Felt amazing and practically no one there so we had it to ourselves. The rooms were nice and you have to get an ocean view if you’re going to stay here as it’s beautiful. There’s a small park next to the ocean right behind the hotel which is nice for a morning walk.
Traditional Japanese hotel with outdoor onsen and set Japanese dinner and breakfast. You don’t need to think about what to eat. Staff at dinner restaurant speaks fluent English.
The staff are very friendly. The room is clean and spacious. The bed is comfy. The design and style of the hotel, the view and the private onsen are just amazing.
Very close to Beppu station, facilities in excellent condition as it’s a new hotel. Love the 7 private onsen for small families. Public onsen is also very nice.
